Regional Accents and Rhyme

I have been thinking a lot about rhyming and regional accents.

For instance, this line from Stick Man, by Julia Donaldson, always scuppers me and my midlands vowels.
<<Here comes a boy in a warm woolly scarf,
"An arm for my snowman!" he says with a laugh.>>

No matter how long I have lived down south, I can not bring myself to pronounce <<laugh>> with an elongated <<a>>!

What's interesting is that when I am writing something that rhymes, I will stick to the generic BBC accent, and I change the pronounciation in my own head away from how I would speak it out loud.

Given the wide variety of regional accents across the UK, I wonder what percentage of rhymes hold up to out-loud recitals?
